IPO bound HMIL, which is also from South Korea, had faced severe labour unrest for nearly a decade till the realisation -- a worker's union cannot be avoided -- dawned on it.
Hyundai had signed a wage settlement on Thursday with a pay rise of 21-24 per cent over a three-year period. HMIEU had earlier gone on strike from April 20 to May 7 saying the management had not recognised the Union and had dismissed 80 employees, suspended 20 workers and transferred nine employees. The strike was called off after the meeting held by the labour commissioner on May 17.

A section of employees of auto-maker, Hyundai Motor India went on a flash strike at the company's production unit at nearby Sriperumbudur on Monday, demanding reinstating over 60 employees dismissed last year on grounds of ''unruly practices.''
Legal battles initiated by 1,000-odd former employees of the Talegaon plant continue to present a challenge for the acquisition process.
Hyundai said its production was not impacted because of the labour problem at the vendor's factory.
Centre of Indian Trade Unions district secretary Muthukumar said the workers were arrested when they tried to stage an agitation in front of the plant at Sriperumbudur.
The strike, however, had no impact on production of auto majors Maruti Suzuki India, Hero MotoCorp, Honda Cars India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors and Hyundai Motors India as their plants in various parts of the country functioned normally.
Both are finding it difficult to sell one each of their plants -- Chennai Maraimalai Nagar (Ford) and Talegaon near Pune (GM) -- and are finding the road blocked by employee severance snarl-ups, report Sohini Das and Shine Jacob.
The traffic tells a story. During the lockdown, it took 45 minutes to zip through the deserted 35-km stretch from Chennai to reach the automobile heart of Sriperumbudur-Oragadam, where the big names of the car industry - Hyundai Motor India, Renault-Nissan India, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, Apollo Tyres, and Royal Enfield - are based.
